Focus V: Smart Dab Rig Technology & Portable Concentrate Vaporizers
Focus V revolutionized concentrate vaporization through smart dab rig technology and portable design innovation. Since launching the original Carta in 2018, this California-based company has consistently delivered electronic dab rigs that combine precise temperature control, smartphone app integration, and reliable battery systems. Focus V devices use proprietary Intelli-Core heating technology with a 360-degree coil design, setting them apart from traditional conduction-based systems. The V Browser app connects all Focus V vaporizers for firmware updates, custom temperature profiles, and session tracking across the entire product ecosystem.

WHY FOCUS V’S SHARED PLATFORM MATTERS
Most vaporizer brands sell devices as standalone products. Focus V took a different approach. Their Intelli-Core atomizer system is the common thread across the entire lineup. Buy an Intelli-Core or Intelli-Core MAX for your Carta Sport, and it works on the Aeris too. Carta 2 glass tops fit directly on the Carta Sport. This cross-compatibility means your accessories don’t become obsolete when you add a second device or move to a newer model.
The Intelli-Core Atomizer System
The Intelli-Core atomizer uses a ceramic heating element with 360° surface coverage. Temperature sensors sit inside the atomizer housing itself, not in the base unit. This matters because the device reads heat directly where your concentrate sits rather than estimating from a distance. The result is more accurate temperature control and consistent vapor quality session after session, even as the atomizer ages and accumulates residue.
Two sizes are available. The standard Intelli-Core fits personal sessions and comes stock with both the Carta Sport and Aeris. The Intelli-Core MAX has a larger chamber for heavier use or group sessions. Both screw in and out of any current Focus V device without tools, and the replacement cost sits between $30–$90, depending on the model, significantly less than comparable atomizers from Puffco ($60–$100) or Dr. Dabber ($50–$70).
Carta Sport vs. Aeris: Choosing the Right Form Factor
These two devices share technology but serve different situations.
Carta Sport is the full-size electric dab rig. It uses water filtration through a borosilicate glass top, has a 2700mAh internal battery rated for up to 50 sessions per charge, and introduces the Carta Connect, a removable silicone air path that makes cleaning significantly easier than any other e-rig on the market. Five temperature presets are controllable via the single V button, or you can fine-tune settings through the Focus V app over Bluetooth. At roughly $235 CAD, it directly competes with the Puffco Peak and Crossing Core 2.1 on price while offering a larger battery and removable air path that neither competitor matches.
Aeris is the portable option. It packs a full-size Intelli-Core chamber into a palm-sized body wrapped in stainless steel and silicone. The 800mAh swappable battery gives you 8–10 sessions before needing a charge, but the removable battery design means you can carry a spare and swap in seconds. The temperature range runs from 365°F to 600°F across five presets. The Aeris competes with the Puffco Pivot and Yocan Pocket, but produces noticeably denser vapor thanks to its larger 3D heating chamber, the same atomizer technology found in full-size e-rigs. Users have found that aftermarket upgrades from artists like The Cloud Vortex and Nope2Dope transform the Aeris into a device that competes with desktop units three times the price.
The Saber: Focus V’s Electronic Dab Tool
The Saber isn’t a vaporizer. It’s a heated loading tool that solves a common frustration. Sticky concentrates cling to standard dab tools, land on chamber walls, or miss the atomizer entirely. The Saber heats a ceramic tip across three power levels, letting concentrate slide cleanly off into your chamber. A built-in LED spotlight illuminates the chamber for precise loading in low light. It charges via USB-C, the ceramic tips are replaceable via a twist-lock mechanism, and at $40, it costs less than competing hot knife tools while offering more temperature flexibility. It pairs well with any e-rig or wax pen, not just Focus V devices.
V Browser App and Bluetooth Control
Every current Focus V device connects to the V Browser app over Bluetooth. From the app, you can adjust individual temperature presets, set session duration, customize LED colors, and receive firmware updates. The Carta Sport and Aeris both function perfectly fine without the app (the single-button interfaces handle basic operation), but the app opens up full customization for users who want precise temperature control tuned to their preferred concentrates. Firmware updates are pushed through the app as well, so your device can gain features over time.
Carta 2 Sunset and What It Means for Buyers
Focus V discontinued the Carta 2 in mid-2025 following a patent settlement with Puffco. If you already own a Carta 2, your warranty remains fully active, Intelli-Core atomizers continue to be produced, and glass tops are cross-compatible with the Carta Sport. The Carta Sport was designed as the Carta 2’s direct successor: same ecosystem compatibility, similar price point, with added improvements like the larger battery, Carta Connect air path, and simplified single-button interface.
For buyers deciding between remaining Carta 2 stock and the Carta Sport: the Sport is the better long-term purchase. It uses the same atomizers, accepts the same glass, and will receive continued firmware and accessory support going forward.
Carta 3: What We Know
Focus V has confirmed the Carta 3 for early 2026. It’s positioned as the premium flagship above the Carta Sport, expected to include an upgraded Intelli-Core atomizer with greater surface area, a full-color display, enhanced airflow, and deeper app integration. Carta glass tops will remain compatible. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but based on Focus V’s product positioning, expect it to sit above the Carta Sport’s price point. We’ll update this page with confirmed specs and availability as soon as Focus V makes an official announcement.
HOW TO CHOOSE BETWEEN FOCUS V DEVICES
The decision between the Carta Sport and Aeris comes down to where and how you use concentrates most often.
Choose the Carta Sport if you primarily use concentrates at home or in settled locations, want water-filtered vapor, prefer longer sessions without recharging, or plan to use the Intelli-Core MAX for group sessions. The Carta Sport’s 2700mAh battery means charging once every few days for most users. Its water filtration cools vapor noticeably, and the Carta Connect air path makes maintenance less tedious than competitors that require full disassembly for cleaning.
Choose the Aeris if portability matters most, you need something pocket-sized for travel or outdoor use, or you want a secondary device alongside a full-size e-rig. The Aeris produces more vapor than any comparably sized portable, thanks to its full-size Intelli-Core chamber. The swappable battery system is a standout for travelers. Carry a charged spare, and you never run dry. The Aeris doesn’t include water filtration by default, though Focus V sells compatible Wet Top and Bubbler glass attachments separately.
Both devices support Bluetooth app control, share atomizer compatibility, and carry a 1-year manufacturer warranty.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT FOCUS V
Are Focus V products covered by warranty in Canada?
Yes. Pipe Puffin is an authorized Focus V retailer. All devices include the full 1-year manufacturer warranty. If you need to file a claim, we can help you navigate the process directly with Focus V’s support team.
Which Focus V atomizer should I get: Intelli-Core or Intelli-Core MAX?
The standard Intelli-Core works well for personal sessions and comes included with both the Carta Sport and Aeris. The Intelli-Core MAX has a larger chamber suited for heavier use, bigger loads, or sharing. Both fit every current Focus V device. If you’re unsure, start with the standard and upgrade to the MAX once you know your usage pattern.
Can I use Carta 2 glass tops on the Carta Sport?
Yes. Focus V designed the Carta Sport to accept all Carta 2 glass attachments directly. OG Carta glass also fits. This backward compatibility means existing Focus V users don’t need to replace their glass when upgrading devices.
How long does a Focus V atomizer last?
With daily use, expect 2–3 months from a standard Intelli-Core atomizer, roughly 500 to 800 sessions. Regular cleaning with isopropyl alcohol after sessions extends life significantly. When vapor flavor starts declining or heat-up takes longer, it’s time for a replacement.
What’s the difference between the Focus V Carta Sport and the Puffco Peak?
Both are water-filtered electric dab rigs at similar price points. The Carta Sport offers a larger battery (2700mAh vs approximately 1300mAh), the removable Carta Connect air path for easier cleaning, and cross-compatible atomizers shared with the Aeris. The Puffco Peak uses its own 3D chamber system and has a larger accessory aftermarket. Performance and vapor quality are comparable, and the choice often comes down to ecosystem preference and which accessories you want access to.
Does the Focus V Aeris work with dry herbs?
The Aeris is designed primarily for concentrates, but Focus V offers a separate dry herb atomizer attachment. Performance with dry herbs is limited compared to dedicated herb vaporizers, so expect good flavor but modest vapor production. If dry herbs are your primary use case, a dedicated device like the Arizer Solo 2 or DynaVap will serve you better.
Is the Carta 3 worth waiting for?
If you need a device now, the Carta Sport delivers strong performance and will share accessory compatibility with the Carta 3 when it launches in early 2026. If you already own a working Focus V device and want the next flagship, waiting makes sense, as the Carta 3 is expected to bring meaningful upgrades to the atomizer, display, and airflow systems.
How do I clean the Carta Connect air path?
Remove the silicone Carta Connect from the Carta Sport (it’s held by magnets, no tools needed), soak it in isopropyl alcohol for 15–30 minutes, rinse with warm water, and let it dry completely before reinserting. For reclaim collection, place the Carta Connect in the freezer for 30 minutes, then flex the silicone to release the collected material.
